In the early days of Copper mining in the UP of Michigan the miners used to hand chisel the copper out. Sometimes they would hit a large piece of copper and chisel off a FLAKE of copper. That is what these are. I found all of these in Aug 2009 using an F-75 Fisher Metal detector. These pieces date from between 1840 and 1860. After 1860 the newer style drills became available and chips like this didn’t happen any more.
